February 18: Fresh Straw for a Cold Winter’s Night

I don’t know about them, but I’m ready for spring. Wishful thinking for now since it will be 9 below tonight! Peering into the nest box seeking eggs, I noticed the girls buried down through the straw all the way to the chicken wire. To keep their roost warm (and prevent a windchill) I added a pile of fresh straw. Blackbird promptly sought any seeds she could find in it.
